The first thing that you need to do after joining up for any martial arts training is to buy the appropriate uniform or gi for the same. Given the fact that most martial arts uniforms are quite similar, you may end up buying a Karate gi rather than the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gi. The following points of difference between these two uniforms can prevent you from making a similar mistake.
- In general, the uniforms designed for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are made from a thick and durable fabric that can withstand a lot of pulling and grabbing. On the other hand karate uniforms are made from thin and filmsy fabric as there is hardly any pulling or grabbing between the opponents.
- In the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gi many areas have reinforced stitching as they are prone to ripping due to the opponents trying to grab hold each other from here. However, there is no such stitching in uniforms designed for karate training.
- Another distinguishing feature of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gi is that it features a very thick collar which does not tear easily on pulling. Since karate focuses more on training the students in striking their opponents, its uniform features a normal collar.
